Standard 4: Instructional Delivery & Management
Physical education candidates engage students in meaningful learning experiences through effective use of pedagogical skills. They use communication, feedback, and instructional and managerial skills to enhance student learning.
4a.
Demonstrate verbal and nonverbal communication skills that convey respect and sensitivity across all learning experiences.
***Here is a letter that I had to create for a course I took about students with disabilities. We had to create letters, poems, songs, etc. to show students that we understood and how we could do better to assist them with learning in our class. I LOVED this letter that I wrote! I truly enjoyed this class as it helped me to respect my students more.

4b.
Implement demonstrations, explanations and instructional cues that are aligned with short-and long- term plan objectives.
***As teachers, we have to understand that students don't all learn the same way. (This was the hardest lesson that I had to learn as a teacher!) Now when I'm explaining something, I find a lot of ways to ensure my students are understanding. Therefore, I verbally explain, I allow my students to watch YouTube videos, I demonstrate, and I have a student demonstrate.

4c.
Evaluate the changing dynamics of the learning environment and adjust instructional tasks as needed to further student progress.
***In my setting, change is our best friend! One day we can 8 kids and the next we can 1. I use this lower number of students to my advantage by being able to give better feedback and more repetitions for my students.

4d.
Implement transitions, routines and positive behavior management to create and maintain a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment.
***I remember taking a class at GSU and the professor explained how negative it looked to a student to have rules with everything they could not do. So instead, I decided to tell them my expectations so that they can rise to the occasion with their behavior. This has been the best advice I have received. Every semester I have my students sign this contract after going over it. I want them to know my expectations of them as well as know their expectations of me. Behavior hasn't really been a major issue since.

4e.
Analyze motor skills and performance concepts in order to provide specific, congruent feedback to enhance student learning.
***Feedback is crucial for students getting better. Here is some commentary I had to write about my lesson plan during student teaching. I had my students record each other when they performed the push up and curl up sections of the Fitnessgram assessment. I did this so that I could go back to give better feedback and for them to actually "see" what I was saying. It worked really well.
